I'm interested in publishing a book (workbook) for SEC PE, of which I have its draft (and by which I have already used and tested it in my SEC PE teaching).

My query is that of how to go about it and publish it.

Good evening from Paris

What does SEC PE stand for?

Well, having published a few books ... the best thing would be to copyright your manuscript and then send a unit + a synopsis to publishers you think might be interested in your project. If they accept your project you should normally get a down payment( (usually 1/3), another third when you sign the contract and the last third when the book comes out. Beware of publishers who ask you to pay to publish the book. A publisher is like a banker, he should take risks. An author should be paid royalties for the amount of books published.

The second thing is to build a website and make yourself known as an author. Last year a French publisher who had visited my site of English language exercises commissioned me to write a Business English book.

The third possibility is to package you book electronically and sell it on the web. You might use the services of a reliable web company called Kagi who deals with all the financial aspects.

Best

Good Afternoon,

Thanks a million for your advices.... I have been in contact with a publisher lately, however I haven't yet received a clear decision on whether they are going to accept the project or not!!! (due to summer shut down).

As regards to the manuscript copyright: How and whom shall I contact to do so?

SEC PE stands for Physical Education at Secondary level (what we usually refer to as the O'level)

Thanks again for your guidance

Regards
Cynthia

Cynthia,

Prosit if you' ve already got a publisher !
Re copyright ... normally in the UK and in the Commowealth you add a © to your name + date.

Here in France I put the table of contents + a synopsis in a brown envelope and sealed with red sealing wax and leave it with the Author's Association, legally under copyright.

But please remember publishers should not make you pay anything ... on the contrary they have to pay you. For example, if they decide that they will have an initial printout of 5,000 copies then they should pay you royalties(3% 5% 10% depending on what is in your contract ... 5-10% should be ok) on the 5,000 copies (one third when you sign etc...). Two years later if they print another 5,000 then it's back to square one.
If your book is translated into German for example and your publishers gets 3,000 euros for 500 copies then they share the 3,000 with you (50%). That's why when you read about authors who have had their books translated into 20 languages you know that they can start thinking of an account in an offshore bank!!!

Good luck

Michael
